AS and A2 Level Music gives you the opportunity to study History of Music, Musical Composition, Analysis of Musical styles and Performance. You will study historical analysis in two of the following areas:
• Small Ensemble Music
• Music For Large Ensemble
• Keyboard Music
• 20th Century Music
• Music for Film
• Pop and Jazz Music
• Sacred Vocal Music
• Secular Vocal Music
Composition Techniques is based around 4 and 2 part vocal writing with the chance to complete a free composition during the course. Performance is an integral part of the course and we expect students to perform regularly at A-Level recitals along with participation in at least one of the department’s ensembles. As a general guide, you should be the equivalent to grade 5 in performance standard. Please do not panic if you haven’t taken exams – this is only a guide.
At A2 Music, there is an option to concentrate on performance or composition. Any students who have music lessons through the North Somerset Music service may be eligible for the Gifted and Talented Scheme. Course entrance requirement is a B grade at GCSE Music and relevant performance skill.
