Symphony orchestra is the main orchestra in Churchill School consisting of at least 40 students who fill the majority of the roles in a classic orchestral set. These include strings, brass, woodwind and percussion including instruments such as timpani and marimba.  The works performed are mainly classical pieces and the orchestra is also closely involved in performing the choral works with the senior choir.  Repertoire has included pieces such as three of the Four Seasons by Vivaldi and pieces from Elgar’s String Serenade.  Musicians in this group tend to be grade 5 and above in their chosen instrument .  For an excerpt of Spring from the Four Seasons performed by the orchestra play the track below:

The quality and diversity of the music played by the symphony orchestra has also encouraged a number of professional players around the country to come and perform with the orchestra in their performances in the Spring concerts.  Last year especially a number of professional musicians joined the orchestra to be part of the performance of the Armed Man by Karl Jenkins.
